Our Team
Becky Donohoe
Hi there!! My name is Becky and I am a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and an Attention Autism Advanced Practitioner. I qualified with an MSc in Speech and Language Sciences in 2004 and have experience working within the NHS and in Independent schools. I have worked with hundreds of children with a range of communication differences. I am particularly passionate about working with autistic children and strongly believe in making therapy functional, meaningful, flexible and fun. I work holistically together with the child, their parents and other professionals to enable children to reach their full potential. I am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASTLIP). I also have enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance.
Specialist Experience
I am trained in a wide range of different approaches including: Attention Autism, the Curiosity Programme, Talking Mats, SCERTS, TEACCH, Hanen, Elklan, Makaton, Parent Child Interaction, Derbyshire Language Scheme, The Lidcombe program, Palin PCI. I am also trained as an attention autism advanced practitioner. I enjoy delivering training to education staff, parents and other professional groups. I can provide assessment and intervention in your home or in nurseries and schools. I am trained in the use of the ADOS-2 and work together with local Clinical Psychologists to carry out autism diagnostic assessments for both children and adults.
Making Commuication Fun
Communication is a complicated skill! When children find it difficult to communicate they can experience feelings of distress and frustration. This can make it even more difficult to communicate. This is why I take the time to be creative and make working on communication as much fun as possible. After all, we all learn best when we are having fun!
